The love of God poured into our hearts by the Holy Spirit finds practical expression in community life. The Gospel message to live in unity is a challenge we constantly strive to realize through mutual respect and caring love. Our relationship with one another, through work, prayer, recreation, etc., furthers our growth in self-knowledge and expands our capacity for deeper spiritual and psychological maturity. Each one''s gifts help to enrich and broaden our life together. We have regular meetings to discuss issues which are pertinent to our life so that every one''s point of view can be heard and respected. We hold an election for prioress every three years. Each sister is accountable for the responsibilities she is given in community. The overflow of our common life is expressed in hospitality to those who visit, and in a prayerful sharing in the pains and struggles of our contemporary world. Daily Living/Regular ActivitiesLISTENING TO THE WORD The source of our prayer and of our life together is the Word of God. In an attitude of attentive listening and joyful praise we celebrate God''s message of truth in the Eucharist, the Liturgy of the Hours, in periods of solitary prayer and in the meditative praying of the rosary. Study, especially of the Scriptures, is an integral part of our Dominican vocation. It serves as an indispensable source of nourishment for unceasing prayer and for the work of the Spirit transforming us in Christ. Our library contains a wide selection of books which are continually up-dated. We broaden our mind and perspective through periodic lectures and workshops in our monastery.
SERVING THROUGH OUR WORK Daily work provides a necessary balance to our life of prayer and is a service to the community. Our work takes various forms. An effort is made to develop each sister''s talents to the benefit of the community. Our gift shop contains many items made by the sisters, such as: jams, bread, pickles, crocheted and knitted items, greeting cards, needlepoint, and more. Creative writing, music, gardening, and household chores provide further opportunities for each sister to contribute her talents to the community. Aware that we live in an affluent society, we have chosen to live simply and frugally to witness to the proper place material things have in relationship to the things of God. |
